(Update)
Yesterday, while ProductIP was in Brussels, the European Council has agreed with the Commission’s proposal to postpone implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) by one year.
This is the second step, after the EU Commission announced in a Press release its proposal for the postponement on October 2nd.
The final step will be the voting in the plenary session of the European Parliament on November 13-14.
If the proposal is approved by the European Parliament, the EUDR will take effecton 30 December 2025; micro and small enterprises will have an extra six months, until 30 June 2026.
The Commission's proposal was accompanied by the release of the long-awaited EUDR Guidance document. And with the necessary implementation tools being available (soon) the additional 12 months should enable proper and efficient enforcement. With the last-minute postponement, the Commission is responding to feedback from international partners, taking into account the state of their preparations, and giving all concerned parties additional time to prepare.
To be continued.
