A quick look at the Safety Gate recalls may give you the impression that cosmetics have become more dangerous. It is the number one category causing almost a third of all recalls this year. But statistics can be deceiving. Cosmetics have not become more hazardous at all; they are still the same cosmetics. It is not the cosmetics, but the rules that have changed. All these recalls are caused by a single ingredient, BMHCA. It has been banned since spring 2022 and the cause of hundreds of recalls since then.
