The Dutch biotechnology company Inzek, sold corona tests from China with a high risk of a false result. Approximately 1.5 million tests were sold in at least 20 countries. This reports investigative journalism platform Investico and journalist collective OCCRP.
The company claimed to have a 'very reliable' and thorough' test for Corona with a result in 10 minutes. The test would look for antibodies in the blood and was supposed to determine whether a tested person has been infected with the coronavirus.
However, according to the Dutch Outbreak Management Team (OMT) and the European Commission such test have not yet been developed. A wrong result can give someone a false sense of security if they mistakenly think they have already had the Corona virus.
